Connected Experience
KRUTSCH gives your Connected Device the strategy, hard work, and support it needs to win on any platform.
Parsec Labs
Enterprise Networking and Storage
We developed a simplified visual language for complex storage migration configurations and design patterns that prioritized flexibility and efficiency. Unlike most Digital Agencies, our background isn’t advertising: it’s enterprise networking, IoT, and storage.
Digi International LR54
IoT and Networking
Our team designed and built a working set of “Reference Pages” (i.e. working web front-end) that the client’s own development engineers merged into the device’s embedded system, as features were being developed. Let us worry about the front-end, so your team can focus on it’s core competency.
X-IO Tech
Enterprise Networking and Storage
We lead the architecture and design of the world's first web services based infrastructure for enterprise storage management, the award winning ICON Services. We have first-hand experience with the very real world of designing a mission critical product experience. We understand that your reputation takes years to build and can be tarnished in seconds.
We Have Experience
8 CHALLENGES WITH A CONNECTED DEVICE UX
In this two-part article, we recount user study challenges relating to connected device problems we were tasked to solve for a particular client and expand on eight points we have found to be prevalent across many Connected Device products. Our experience in Connected Device UX has helped us better understand common problems users may face during their experience with a product.

UX HIRE OR CONTRACT DESIGN TEAM?
Creating a great user experience takes a combination of leadership, customer insight, workflow analysis, visual design, and precise front-end coding, followed-up with careful user observation. It takes an experienced team that tips the scales in favor of skill-sets over dedicated employment.
Patent Highlights
At KRUTSCH, we often serve our clients as a de facto Systems Designer or Architect for the customer experience. We comprehend customer needs, designing functionally correct and subjectively pleasing products.
What we do is inventive design, with 16 patents awarded on behalf of our clients.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A QUICK START PACKAGING MURAL
A design patent awarded for a unique packaging of IoT devices. The devices are presented over a quick start mural that illustrates the device's relationship with the utility and network eco-system. This solved a difficult UX challenge for consumers doing the installation.
METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR JOINING A SMART ENERGY DEVICE TO A ZIGBEE NETWORK
IoT device discovery can be problematic, depending on the sequence in which devices are powered on or configured. In designing the UX for a family of products, we invented a robust network discovery technique.
Qualitative Research
Qualitative research yields a detailed and unconstrained understanding of customer experiences. The trick is to figure out what’s generally true - separating quirks from common behavior.
When we interview customers 1-1, we always discover things not known or understood by our client.
Competitive Analysis
Product Strategy provides overall direction to the team and centers on specifying thoughtful product objectives and plans, often over a series of design, development, release and support iterations.
Competitive Analysis is an essential component of product strategy.
Our product design work has been recognized by industry analysts and Editor’s Choice awards, as well as finalist selections for Best of Show at CES and VMworld.
ICON - A Next-gen Enterprise Storage Manager
Our client engaged us for a user study of the development partner community, which revealed the need to rearchitect the underlying embedded systems. We lead the architecture and design of the world's first web services based infrastructure for enterprise storage management, called ICON Services.
With ICON Services under development, we then switched gears and embarked on a comprehensive user study, culminating in the design and deployment of the award winning ICON Manager platform.
Orange Tree - Build Your Own Solution
We worked with Orange Tree to design and build a mobile friendly web app that enabled companies to build their own custom background screening products.
We discovered that few competitors were offering online pricing, and those that were only offered basic unpersonalized packages. Our research also revealed that people were typically shopping against a product that they currently had, starting that search on their mobile devices, and then migrating to desktop for review and purchasing. Therefore, we developed a highly granular package configuration tool that allowed a true apples to apples comparison making BYS a class leading product.
Every product launch surprises us a little. It’s not that testing uncovers issues in need of repair, polish, or even re-design; that’s a given for any but the most trivial of apps. No, it’s the simple, passé elements, that we exercise over-and-over internally, that somehow trip-up our end-users and leave us shaking our collective heads. Here are some entertaining examples.
