The Award-Winning Work with The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation®

Our three Silver Davey Awards come from our groundbreaking work on The Heart Apps, a suite of tools designed specifically for physicians. These apps are changing the way healthcare professionals approach heart surgeries.

Here’s how the MHIF Heart Apps elevate healthcare:

Saving Lives, One App At a Time

The Heart Valve Disease App suite provides procedural guidelines, best practices, and clinical scenarios to aid physicians in treating patients with numerous heart disease conditions. Viv Aortic, Viv Mitral, Valve PPM, and Redo-TAV make up the suite and all play a crucial part in helping change the outcome of heart disease conditions. ViV Aortic serves as an instant guide to Valve in Valve procedures for clinicians. ViV Mitral provides information that is specific to a clinical scenario, quickly and simply. Valve PPM supports echocardiography professionals through assessing functionality of implanted prosthetic cardiac valves. Lastly, Redo TAV gives guidelines for assessing the suitability of a transcatherter aortic valve for Redo-TAV procedures.

The PCI App

The PCI app is one of The Heart Apps that has had a major impact in percutaneous coronary intervention. It is an educational tool to help cardiologists overcome challenges and improve the outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention by presenting the algorithms in a step-by-step approach used through an easy to access, free app. This allows healthcare professionals to make decisions quickly, which ultimately leads to better patient care.

Usability

Because of a focus on user experience, The Heart Apps are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. The apps allow physicians to navigate easily through medical information before and during procedures. Navigation isn't the only thing that makes these apps easy to use. We also equipped them with offline capabilities that let clinicians have access to resources, even in remote areas where internet is unreliable. Easy navigation and accessibility are important for high-pressure environments, i.e. surgical settings.

Low-Code Backend for Dynamic Updates

A key feature of The Heart Apps is their low-code backend, which allows MHIF researchers to update and manage app content easily. Ensuring that the information presented in the apps is always current, reflecting the latest medical findings and best practices without requiring extensive app submissions.

The creativity, user experience design, and technical execution that went into The Heart Apps is what made them worthy of three Silver Davey Awards. These apps not only simplify complex medical processes but also enhance the capabilities of physicians by putting powerful educational tools directly into their hands.
